HAVE A LOVELY HOLIDAY!

Esentepe village has,a good supermarket, restaurants etc but is situated up a very steep hill so only accessible by car. The hotel does Sunday lunch at around £8 and meals.Stevies bar just four miles from the villa do a great Sunday lunch, £9 for two courses and there are literally hundreds more to choose from. There are plenty of restaurants within a few minutes drive and the Golf Club is really good a bit more expensive but really luxurious. The spa is also very, very good with massage and lots of treatments (great whilst the men go and play Golf), ask for their special deals, we had a full body massage, use of all their facilities including their pool AND either lunch or dinner in the evening for £50 each, it was superb value!

The Golf club looks like a Palace, it is so magnificent you cannot believe its a golf club, all marble and beautiful sitting out areas with uninterrupted views of the mountains, sea and surrounding countryside. Do not miss this even if it is just to go up and have a coffee. You are allowed in, no problem.

There is a water sport centre called Vogue about a ten minute drive away not far past Esentepe village turning, it also has a lovely beach, a large club and lively cabaret in the season. Also an outside disco. We only found it last time we were at the villa and we have not tried it yet. The Acupulco casino and hotel (you cannot miss it you pass it every time you go to Kyrenia).........just tried it for the first time this visit and we are kicking ourselves that we didn't go earlier, its AMAZING.......the best beach, the biggest outdoor pool I have ever seen, separate one with big slides etc for children, big play park for children too! restaurant on the beach, a massive Jacuzzi, its stunning and you could easily spend every day there, there is a small charge to go in but you get a bed and umbrella and all the facilities are free, there is also volleyball and tennis courts etc... Suggest you take a picnic as the food and drink is quite expensive but a truly wonderful place!

One of the most enjoyable days for us was our boat trip, at Kyrenia harbour there are catamarans going out for trips, we saw loads of Dolphins and lovely sights and enjoyed a really good meal on board for around £20 each.

Places not to miss
There is a proposed new marina about 5 kilometres from the villa, go to the top of the road and turn left. Continue for around 5 kilometres until you come to a sign saying Molous inn, you can take the car right down to the site of the new marina. You come to a t junction, the right hand side will take you to the marina and the left to a sandy cove. If you park at the marina and take a walk to your left you will see some very unusual rock formations, this is a lovely area to take a picnic and swim, and you can swim to the sandy cove from here.

Other lovely places to see are Bellapais, Hilarion and Girne castles, Girne harbour and lots of other things to see but we have only done a few of them yet. My favourite was Salamis, about an hours drive, take a picnic and your swim things. Visit the Roman ruins which are wonderful then go down to the beautiful beach and have a swim and stay there for dinner. Also down the road is Alagdir beach, you can make an appointment there to go on a turtle watch, the turtles come out at night and lay their eggs

We also visited the monastery at the far end of the peninsular, that was a disappointment but just by it is the best beach I have ever seen, it is called golden sand beach and it is breathtaking but it takes about two hours through lovely countryside and well worth taking a drive and stopping off for a meal at one of the lovely restaurants on the way back.

A great restaurant bar has just opened called the Poppin, a minutes walk from the villa, great food and takeaway, also free wi fi. A great place to have a drink and meet the local residents.

Northern Cyprus enjoys typical Mediterranean weather with a long, hot dry summer which runs from early May through October, warm spring and autumn and a short winter running from January through March which is when the most rain falls. Summer temperatures can reach 35C and winter temperatures never fall below 14C. Frost is unheard of, other than high in the mountains. It is not uncommon for us to eat outside at Christmas and New Year.

Winter is a great time to visit if you like a more peaceful environment—it can be rainy but is not cold by British standards. Often days are sunny and then walking and sightseeing are a special delight. Spring is an especially beautiful time with warm sunny days and the hills covered in wild flowers. For many people, this is their favourite time to visit. Summer brings long hot days and warm nights. Ideal for lazing by the pool or on the beach, enjoying barbecues and midnight swims in your private garden. Warm temperatures continue into the autumn, gradually cooling down as November approaches although the sea stays warm.

Note: Northern Cyprus is not governed by the Euro or the Dollar so holidaying here is still good value!
